In a statement shared on the 10th of Muharram, Baqri described Ashura as “a time of remembrance, sacrifice and reflection,” saying Imam Hussain (a.s) legacy continues to inspire faith, service and resistance to injustice.

Ashura commemorates the martyrdom of Imam Hussain(as) the grandson of Holy Prophet of Islam Prophet Muhammad Mustafa(s.a.w.s) & Hdeis companions at the Battle of Karbala in 61st Hijjri Shia Muslims, it is one of the most important days of the Islamic calendar and is observed through mourning gatherings, processions, sermons, Noha and acts of charity. In Telangana as well India Shia Muslim communities have held major Ashura processions and Muharram programs for Hundreds of years, including gatherings & processions.

Firasath Ali Baqri said strength comes from the many faith traditions that shape the city and from a shared struggle against injustice and oppression. He called on residents to carry Ashura’s values forward while building a more just city for every Indian
