Ministers set June 26 Deadline for Singur Canal Works

The Telangana government has directed irrigation officials to complete the lining works of the Singur project canals by June 26 to ensure timely supply of irrigation water to farmers. The directive was issued during a high level review meeting held at the State Secretariat under the chairmanship of Irrigation Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy.

Health and Family Welfare Minister Damodar Rajanarasimha and Mining and Employment Minister Vivek Venkataswamy, who is also the in charge minister for the united Medak district, participated in the meeting along with senior officials of the irrigation department.

During the meeting, the ministers reviewed the safety of the Singur Dam, which is considered a key irrigation and drinking water source for the region. They stressed that dam safety is a matter of top priority for the government and instructed officials to complete the ongoing dam safety works on a war footing.

The ministers directed officials to ensure that all safety related works are carried out strictly in accordance with the norms and guidelines prescribed by the National Dam Safety Authority. They also suggested the constitution of a technical committee to closely monitor the implementation of the Singur Dam safety works and provide technical guidance wherever necessary.

Officials were further instructed to ensure that irrigation water is supplied to farmers by the end of July without delay. The ministers emphasized the need for efficient planning and execution of works to meet this target and support farmers during the agricultural season.

The meeting also reviewed progress related to the proposed Pedda Reddy Lift Irrigation Scheme in Andole constituency. The ministers directed irrigation officials to prepare the Detailed Project Reports for the scheme at the earliest and submit them to the government for approval. The project is expected to provide irrigation facilities to around forty thousand acres of farmland in the constituency. The ministers also instructed officials to make necessary arrangements to lay the foundation stone for the Pedda Reddy Lift Irrigation Scheme before the Ugadi festival.

In addition, the ministers directed that beautification and protection works of the Singur project should be taken up immediately. They also asked officials to complete tender processes for the restoration of minor irrigation tanks in Andole constituency so that farmers can benefit during the upcoming agricultural season. Irrigation Principal Secretary E. Sridhar, Engineers in Chief Ramesh Babu, Srinivas and T. Srinivas, Sangareddy Irrigation SE B. Rajamma and other engineering officials attended the review meeting.
