Chief Minister Revanth directs HAML to prepare DPRs within three months

Revanth Reddy asked officials to consult the current Malkajgiri MP Eatela Rajender for suggestions before finalizing the alignment of the two metro corridors

The Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy chose January 1 to give the go ahead to the second phase of the Hyderabad Metro Rail project and directed officials to prepare a Detailed Project Report (DPR) within three months to seek approval for the project. Reddy has given the go ahead for extended metro lines towards Medchal and Shamirpet totalling 45 km.

The Metro line from JBS to Shamirpet would be 22 km, and the Metro from Paradise to Medchal will cover 23 km. The second phase of HMR project was proposed to be built over 76.4 km across five corridors costing ₹24,269 crore under a joint venture proposed with the Central government, 

The proposed two new metro lines (to Medchal and Shamirpet) were discussed by the MD along with the Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MA&UD) secretary M. Dana Kishore with the Chief Minister before the latter gave them to go ahead with the DPRs, as per an official release.

The demand from citizens for the extension of the metro line towards Medchal has been on for a long time. The Chief Minister asked Hyderabad Airport Metro Limited (HAML), the special purpose vehicle of the Telangana Government to start the work as part of phase 2 ‘B’ to send to the central government for necessary approvals.

The Chief Minister discussed with Principal Secretary, Municipal administration, Govt. of Telangana Dana Kishore and HAML MD NVS Reddy about preparation of DPRs for these two corridors on Wednesday.

Transport and BC Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar expressed happiness over the decision taken by the Chief Minister Revanth Reddy to extend the metro lines up to Shamirpet and Medchal as a New Year gift. He said that it would save a lot of time for people of the North city.

The corridor from Paradise Metro Station to Medchal will cover approximately 23 kilometers, passing through Tadband, Bowenpally, Suchitra Circle, Kompally, Gundlapochampally, Kandlakoya, and the ORR exit.

Similarly, the corridor from JBS Metro Station to Shameerpet will cover about 22 kilometers through Vikrampuri, Kharkhana, Tirumalagiri, Lothukunta, Alwal, Bollaram, Hakimpet, Tumkunta, and the ORR exit.
