Labour and Mines Minister G. Vivek Venkatswamy called for transforming Chennur Municipality into a model urban local body with comprehensive growth across all sectors. Speaking at the ceremony where newly elected Municipal Chairperson Peddinti Padma took charge, he congratulated the Chairperson and governing body members and urged councillors to remain accessible to the public, listen to grievances, and resolve key issues promptly.
The Minister highlighted that development projects worth approximately Rs 50 crore are underway across all wards, including borewells, CC roads, and side drains. Under the AMRUT 2.0 scheme, drinking water will be supplied to every household. He also announced a dedicated drinking water project using Godavari river water and upcoming road widening works. Funds have been allocated for community buildings, and Godavari sand will be made available locally within six months.
Recalling improvements in Maremmavada, he noted that previously unusable roads are now operational. He further announced the sanctioning of 100 new Indiramma houses, compensation of Rs 18 crore to farmers in Devulawada, Babberu, and Cheluk villages, and a 100-bed hospital set to open in May. Development of a crematorium at a cost of Rs 1.20 crore is also underway.
Criticizing the previous government for mismanagement under schemes like Mission Bhagiratha, the Minister assured focused efforts to accelerate development and clear pending contractor bills. Referring to his role in Medak district, he pledged to strengthen the Congress party in Chennur while ensuring funds and projects meet the aspirations of residents. He urged all stakeholders to work unitedly to achieve overall growth in every ward of the municipality.
