The Shri Kashi Vidvat Parishad (Trust) held an important meeting at Shri Vidya Math in Kedarghat, Varanasi, in the presence of Jyotishpeeth Shankaracharya Swami Avimukteshwaranand Saraswati. The meeting was chaired by Acharya Kamalakant Tripathi. Scholars discussed discrepancies in Hindu calendars (Panchangs), which have resulted in festivals being observed on different dates, causing confusion among devotees. The council resolved to take concrete steps to establish uniformity.
The meeting also addressed controversies surrounding proposed changes to the Manusmriti. Scholars decided to convene a gathering of distinguished experts from across India to examine original manuscripts and published editions preserved in India and abroad.
Acharya Sudhakar Mishra proposed obtaining authenticated manuscripts from museums for comparative study. Shankaracharya said the council would work to preserve the original form of the Manusmriti and resolve calendar-related differences. The council also proposed publishing a quarterly journal, Vidvan Manoranjini, to address emerging scholarly issues. The meeting was attended by senior office-bearers and scholars of the trust.
