Karimnagar to be transformed into model city: Bandi Sanjay

Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar said Karimnagar was being developed into a model city through major infrastructure projects backed by central funds.

Speaking after laying the foundation stone for Rs 70 lakh drainage pipeline and CC road works in the 45th Division of Karimnagar, he said more than Rs 22,000 crore had been spent on development of the Karimnagar Parliamentary constituency, including the Municipal Corporation, over the past seven years.

Bandi Sanjay said Rs 50 crore had been secured under UIDF, with another Rs 30 crore likely, while Rs 840 crore had been sanctioned after Karimnagar was included in the UCF list. These funds would be used to transform the city’s infrastructure.

He said more than 40 model roads covering 50 km would be constructed at a cost of  Rs 630 crore. Foot-over bridges would come up near the District Court, Civil Hospital and Geetha Bhavan, while a skywalk similar to the one at Uppal would be built at the Karimnagar bus station. Major traffic junctions would also be beautified.

The Minister said 130 electric vehicles were being procured to provide pollution-free transport facilities in the city.

Addressing the problem of waterlogging during rains, he said plans were being prepared for an 80-km storm-water drainage network to ensure effective rainwater disposal.
