The Jagathgirigutta police in Hyderabad on Wednesday arrested a 36-year-old man for allegedly breaking into a house and stealing gold ornaments worth 14 tolas. The accused, identified as P. Shankar, a resident of Yellammabanda in Jagathgirigutta, reportedly committed the theft on February 23.
According to the police, Shankar broke open the lock of the house belonging to Rakhapalli Laxmi and decamped with gold ornaments kept in a cupboard. The woman had locked her house and gone to a relative’s place. On returning, she found the door lock broken and the ornaments missing.
Based on her complaint, the Jagathgirigutta police registered a case and launched an investigation. Following local enquiries and surveillance, they apprehended Shankar. During interrogation, he confessed to the offence. The police recovered the stolen 14 tolas of gold from his possession. He was later produced before a court and remanded to judicial custody.
