The Hyderabad Traffic Police have launched a special enforcement drive against vehicles using fake, tampered, or unauthorized registration number plates following a rise in public complaints. Officials said such violations are punishable under the Motor Vehicles Act and other relevant laws.

Over the past week, police registered five criminal cases against vehicle owners for using fraudulent number plates to hide vehicle identities, evade traffic enforcement, and violate regulations. Several vehicles involved in these offences were seized during the operation.

The cases were registered under the jurisdictions of Jubilee Hills, Malakpet, Begumbazar, Abids, and Kachiguda police stations.

Traffic Police stated that only government-approved High-Security Registration Plates (HSRP) are legally valid. Custom-designed, altered, incomplete, or sticker-based number plates are illegal and will attract strict action.

Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) D. Joel Davis said Hyderabad Traffic Police follows a zero-tolerance policy against fake registration plates. Offenders will face criminal prosecution and vehicle seizure. He urged motorists to comply with prescribed number plate norms, adding that the special enforcement drive will continue across the city to improve road safety and prevent crime.
