Hyderabad man sentenced to 20 years under POCSO

The Hon’ble XII Additional Sessions Judge, Nampally, Hyderabad, has convicted Vadloori Pavan, 22, of Bagath Singh Nagar, Bagh Lingampally, in case number 288/2022 under Section 376(3) IPC and Section 5(l) r/w 6 of the POCSO Act. He was sentenced to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment and fined Rs 10,000.

The case involved a 15-year-old girl who developed a friendship with the accused through phone conversations. On July 16, 2022, she left home without informing her family and was taken to the accused’s residence under the pretext of marriage. He then sexually assaulted her. The victim’s mother lodged a complaint the next day at Amberpet Police Station, and the case was forwarded to Bharosa for recording her statement.

The Bharosa team provided continuous counseling and emotional support to the victim and her family, who expressed relief at the conviction. The trial saw coordinated efforts from Inspector Sudhakar, prosecutors, Bharosa legal counselors, and police staff, under the supervision of senior women safety officers, ensuring justice was delivered.
