492 held in Hyderabad drunk driving crackdown

Hyderabad Traffic Police conducted a two-day special drive on February 20 and 21, 2026, targeting drunken driving as part of intensified efforts to improve road safety in the city. During the enforcement drive, a total of 492 motorists were caught driving under the influence of alcohol.

According to officials, the majority of offenders were two-wheeler riders, accounting for 412 cases. In addition, 29 three-wheeler drivers and 51 four-wheeler and other vehicle drivers were also booked for violating drunk driving norms.

Police data revealed a wide range of blood alcohol concentration (BAC) levels among those caught. As many as 109 drivers recorded BAC levels between 30-50 mg/100 ml, while 205 cases fell in the 51-100 range. Another 97 offenders registered BAC levels between 101-150.

In more serious violations, 47 drivers showed BAC levels of 151-200, 19 were in the 201-250 range, and four cases were recorded between 251-300. Alarmingly, 11 motorists were found with BAC levels exceeding 300 mg/100 ml.

Traffic police officials reiterated that there will be zero tolerance towards drunk driving violations. They stated that such special enforcement drives will continue in the coming days to curb accidents and enhance commuter safety. Citizens have been urged to cooperate with enforcement teams and avoid driving after consuming alcohol.
