BRS Deputy Floor Leader T. Harish Rao launched a scathing attack on the Congress government, alleging large scale corruption in the education sector, reckless borrowings, extravagant spending on luxury projects and policies that were adversely affecting farmers, students, employees and the common people.
Speaking informally with media persons at Telangana Bhavan, Harish Rao alleged that the postponement of school reopening was linked to a ₹2,000 crore scam in the Education Department. He claimed that contracts for uniforms, bags, notebooks, belts and other supplies had been delayed due to commission-related issues, resulting in students not receiving essential materials on time.
He alleged that the Congress government had abandoned the previous system under which handloom workers and LIDCAP were engaged in supplying school materials and instead handed contracts to an outside contractor. He further claimed that supplies meant for nearly seven lakh Gurukul students had still not reached schools and accused the government of inflating tender rates, leading to large-scale irregularities.
Harish Rao also alleged corruption in the procurement of eggs for residential schools, failure in implementing the Chief Minister’s Breakfast Scheme and delays in payments to women’s self-help groups and school sanitation workers. Targeting Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, Harish Rao accused the government of wasting public money on luxurious camp offices and guest houses while claiming that the state lacked funds for welfare schemes. He alleged that a VVIP guest house in the MCRHRD institute near the Chief Minister’s residence had escalated from ₹7 crore to nearly ₹100 crore and questioned expenditure on helicopter travel and other luxury facilities.
He said BRS has information about a close confidante of CM here behind the Meenakshi Nataran RS disqualification row. The BRS leader also criticised increased taxes, fees and levies, alleging that the government was burdening citizens while relying on brokers to arrange massive borrowings. He further accused the government of abandoning Pharma City, resulting in the loss of investments and employment opportunities. Harish Rao asserted that a future BRS government would cancel the Future City project and reiterated that the party continued to enjoy strong grassroots support across Telangana.
