The state government has decided to complete the TIDCO (Township And Infrastructure Development Corporation) houses taken up during the 2014-19 period. Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has set a deadline for the officials to complete 1.18 lakh houses which are currently in various stages by June 12.The decision comes in the wake of one year of the formation of the state government. Previously the central government had sanctioned 7,01,481 houses to AP, while the state government had granted administrative sanctions for 5 lakh houses.

Housed were categorized into 300, 365 and 430 sq ft area and work on 3,13,832 houses was started. For the construction of each house, the Centre has given Rs 1.50 lakh as its share, the state government provided Rs 1.50 lakh, while Rs 90,000 per house was spent on infrastructure. At that time, it was planned to complete 7,01,481 houses at a total cost of Rs 38,000 crores. But after the YSRCP government came to power in 2019, except for about 2.16 lakh houses, the rest have been cancelled. Recently, the state government paid special attention to TIDCO houses.

The municipal authorities issued clear guidelines to complete the pending works expeditiously. Muncipal Administration and Urban Development Minister P. Narayana stated that Rs 7,517 crore is required to restart construction. He informed that the YSRCP government has taken loans in the name of beneficiaries and diverted it for other purposes. With the expiry of the loan moratorium, there is a risk that the loan accounts of the poor could turn into NPAs. After being apprised of the latest situation, Chief Minister Chandrababu agreed to release Rs 102 crore in the accounts of the poor to prevent the loans from becoming  NPAs.
