Former Union Minister and senior Congress leader Chinta Mohan strongly criticized the Centre’s foreign policy, economic situation, present LPG and fuel crisis in the country, while addressing a press conference at the Somajiguda Press Club on Wednesday.

Recalling former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, Mohan said he was a decisive global leader who played a key role in efforts to halt the 1991 Gulf conflict through diplomatic outreach with international leaders, including engagements in Moscow, Tehran, and Iraq. He contrasted this with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, alleging a lack of proactive diplomacy and calling the current foreign policy weak. Modi is like a puppet in the hands of Donald Trump and acting as per the whims and fancies of Trump. He cited the example of procuring Oil from Russia issue where Modi is listening to whatever Trump is saying, the ex MP said.

Highlighting public distress, he pointed to rising fuel prices, LPG shortages, and long queues at petrol stations in Hyderabad.

Mohan supported Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s views on delimitation, opposing any increase in MP and MLA seats, terming it “diversion politics.” He warned that disproportionate representation favoring northern states like Uttar Pradesh and Bihar could create regional imbalance and threaten national unity, while noting that southern states contribute a major share of tax revenues.

He also raised concerns about social justice, questioning the denial of SC status to Dalit Christians and promising constitutional amendments if Congress returns to power in 2029.

Chinta Mohan urged the Centre to withdraw the proposed seat increase and address pressing economic and social issues.
