In a crackdown on corruption, officials of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) caught a Forest Beat Officer red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs.10,000 on Thursday. The accused officer, Banoth Naresh, serving as Forest Beat Officer at Nadimigudem and In-Charge of Sayanapalli under Gundala Forest Range, was apprehended at his office in Gundala.

He had allegedly demanded the bribe from a complainant to refrain from interfering in the cultivation of five acres of patta podu land assigned to the complainant’s father by the government in Venkatapuram revenue village. According to ACB officials, the tainted amount was recovered from the possession of the accused at his instance. The officer is said to have acted dishonestly and misused his official position to obtain undue advantage.

Following the trap, Naresh was arrested and is being produced before the Special Court for SPE & ACB Cases-cum-III Additional District and Sessions Judge, Warangal. The case is currently under investigation.
