New York: Former New York City mayor Rudolph Giuliani is hospitalised in critical but stable condition, according to his spokesperson, Ted Goodman. The announcement on Sunday followed an episode of Giuliani’s online show, America’s Mayor Live, on Friday, where the 81-year-old sounded raspy and mentioned being “a little under the weather”.
Goodman did not provide specific details regarding the cause of hospitalisation or a prognosis but stated that Giuliani is facing the challenge with “unwavering strength”.
Giuliani served eight years as mayor of NYC, earning the nickname “America’s mayor” for his prominent leadership following the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. In later years, Giuliani became a close ally and adviser to President Donald Trump, specifically during the 2020 election challenges.
Trump recently announced he would award Giuliani the Presidential Medal of Freedom. Reacting to the news of his hospitalisation, Trump posted on Truth Social, calling Giuliani “a True Warrior” and the best mayor in the history of New York City. Trump also criticised the treatment of Giuliani by political opponents, expressing sadness over the situation as Giuliani remains under medical care.
