Political power in Telangana for Backward Classes (BCs), Scheduled Castes (SCs), Scheduled Tribes (STs) and Muslims can be achieved only when they unite politically and create an alternative political force to ensure social justice, said Dr. J. Purnachandra Rao, retired DGP and National Coordinator of the All India Bahujan Samaj Party (AIBSP). He was addressing the Rajyadhikara Samarabheri (Political Empowerment Rally) organized by the Telangana Rajyadhikara Party at Bhongir on Sunday as the Chief Guest.
Dr. Purnachandra Rao expressed confidence in the leadership of Teenmaar Mallanna, whom he described as an emerging symbol of the political aspirations of the BC communities in Telangana. Dr. Purnachandra Rao pointed out that the representation of BCs in the 119-member Telangana Legislative Assembly is far below their population share and emphasized that both BCs and Muslims deserve legislative representation proportionate to their population. He further stated that political power and key positions in government continue to remain concentrated in the hands of a few dominant castes.
Expressing concern over the lack of political representation for several BC sub-castes, he observed that traditional occupational communities such as Kummari (Potters), Kammari (Blacksmiths), Mangali (Barbers) Chakali (Washermen) and many others continue to remain underrepresented in legislative bodiesHe concluded his address with the slogans “Jai Bhim! Jai Phule! Jai BC!”
