EU–India FTA opens doors for sparkling tea exports: French firm

France-based sparkling tea maker Richeerz on Tuesday said the recently concluded free trade agreement (FTA) between India and the European Union has created major opportunities to expand bilateral trade in the non-alcoholic beverages segment, particularly in India’s fast-evolving consumer market.

The company, which currently imports premium Darjeeling tea from India for use in its products, is now exploring the possibility of exporting its sparkling tea to India. Calling the timing ideal, SAS Richeerz President Richard Brandazzi said the firm is actively looking for a local Indian partner to enter the market.

“There are huge opportunities for our sparkling tea in India. This is the perfect time to do business in the country,” Brandazzi told PTI on the sidelines of the Biofach 2026 trade fair in Nuremberg.

Richeerz is showcasing its range at the four-day Biofach exhibition, beginning February 10, where India has been named the ‘Country of the Year’. The India Pavilion at the event has been organised by the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA).

According to APEDA, India’s strong presence at Biofach reflects the growing global demand for Indian organic products and the rising participation of exporters, industry associations and farmer producer organisations.
