The Patent Office, Government of India, has granted Patent No.599900 to the Chairman, DRDO, and the Advanced Centre of Research in High Energy Materials (ACRHEM), presently known as DIA-CoE, at the University of Hyderabad (UoH), for a novel energetic compound developed for advanced solid rocket propulsion. The patent, filed in December 2022 and granted on August 20, 2026, designated as BAM-H24, the Next Generation Solid Rocket Propellant Fuel.
The invention was developed by Dr. Muddamarri Hanumantha Rao and Prof. Muralidharan Krishnamurthi of ACRHEM and the UoH School of Chemistry. According to the institution, BAM-H24 combines chemical and thermal stability with low sensitivity to impact and friction. Its non-hygroscopic nature is also expected to help maintain performance under humid storage conditions.
The compound has potential applications as a solid rocket propellant fuel, fuel additive or burn-rate accelerator. The researchers said the innovation could contribute to improved propulsion efficiency and safer handling while strengthening indigenous defence research capabilities. The patent also highlights the growing collaboration between DRDO and academic institutions in developing advanced high-energy materials.
