Telangana BJP president N Ramchander Rao on Friday accused the Congress of unnecessarily politicising the denial of political clearance for Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s proposed US visit.
Talking to media persons at the state BJP office here, Rao said there was no political angle to the Centre’s decision and pointed out that permission had already been granted to officials accompanying the Chief Minister to pursue investment meetings and agreements.
He said the Ministry of External Affairs considers several factors, including the purpose of a visit, diplomatic and security considerations, protocol and other regulatory requirements, before granting political clearance.
Rao cited instances during the UPA regime when foreign visits proposed by then Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi and Jharkhand Chief Minister Arjun Munda were denied clearance. He urged the Congress to avoid politicising the issue. He recalled how Congress MPs and leaders conspiratorially wrote letters to deny a US visa to Narendra Modi, who was the Chief Minister of Gujarat at the time.
He pointed out that the Centre created no hurdles when Revanth Reddy traveled abroad in the past, and that the current decision was made strictly in accordance with regulations and procedural norms. Meanwhile, Rao welcomed prominent doctors Dr Vijayender and Dr Pramod into the BJP. Dr Vijayender is associated with cancer care and the Telangana Doctors Federation, while Dr Pramod is chairman of Meghana Hospital, LB Nagar.
