Metro India News | Hyderabad : It was curtains down to Kalasagaram's T.R.Mahalingam's Centenary celebrations on Sunday. The grand finale was a wonderful flute concert by J.B.Shruthi Sagar who was accompanied by  R.Dinakar on the Violin, Dr D.S.R.Murthy on the mridangam and K.Shyam Kumar on the Khanjeera. The event was hosted at Aparna Sarovar Zenith, Nallagandla.

Shruthi Sagar is a highly talented and acclaimed flautist of international fame. A prodigious talent, he has emerged as one of the top players in the field of Carnatic music. True to his reputation, he delivered an excellent performance and enthralled the audience.

Shruthi Sagar opened the concert with the Ata tala varnam ' Viriboni '. The presentation of the Magnum Opus in _Bhairavi was  grand and exhilarating. The next krithi ' Devadi deva ' in raga Sindhuramakriya was ethereal. He chose Simhendramadhyamam as the next raga which he presented with great depth. Dikshitar's ' Kamakshi ' was soul-stirring.

Raga Kapi came next and his raga exploration was novel. He delved deep into the raga and brought out its sweet essence. The Krithi and Kalpana swaras were enchanting. The rhythmic patters matching the 'makutam' were evidence of his amazing control over the instrument.

' Mayamma ' in Ahiri was evocative.  ' Ninuvina ' in Navarasakannada was lovely.

The central piece of the day was Saint Thyagaraja's  ' Nidhichala Sukhama ' in Kalyani .The raga was dealth with, in detail. The krithi rendering followed by neraval and svarakalpana was impeccable. Dinakar on the Violin complemented the Flautist and delivered a good performance.  Dr DSR Murthy was brilliant on the mridangam and his tani with K.Shyam Kumar in the Khanjira was captivating. Both DSR Murthy and Shyam Kumar enthralled the audience with their rhythmic collaboration. Shruthi Sagar conclused with the ' Chinnanjiru Kiliye ' a ragamalika composed by Subramanya Bharathi.

Noteable was the size of the audience at Aparna Zenith Sarovar's clubhouse especially considering the dip in the in-person audience acrosss the sabhas. It was a visual treat to watch young children occupying the front rows and enjoying carnatic music. All in all, it was a successful  attempt by Kalasagaram to take music to the other parts of the city. Shankar Bala, President of Kalasagaram was optimistic about more such collaborations which he felt will make music more accessible to all. The coordinators of this initiative thanked Kalasagaram for hosting the concert and expressed their deep appreciation to the artistes of the evening.

One must commend the efforts of team Kalasagram under the leadership of N.Ramamurthy, Secretary of Kalasagaram, to inspire the younger generation. An acclaimed musician himself, Ramamurthy spoke about the activities and projects undertaken by Kalasagaram. He welcomed one and all to their upcoming  weeklong ' Annual music and Dance festival' which will be hosted at Keyes high school commencing on the 29th November.
