Indians received more than 4,000 crore spam calls in 2025, underlining the rising scale of fraud and digital disruption across the country, according to Truecaller’s India Insights Report 2025. The report states that 4,168 crore spam calls were identified during the year, of which 1,189 crore unwanted calls were blocked by users, preventing large-scale scam attempts and saving significant time.

In addition, 770 crore fraudulent calls were detected, many impersonating banks, government authorities and payment platforms. Spam SMS remained a major concern, with over 12,903 crore spam messages identified in 2025, especially rising in the second half of the year.

Truecaller said that blocking spam calls helped Indians avoid nearly 21.7 lakh hours of wasted time daily, translating to over 1.5 crore hours every week. The company noted that fraudsters increasingly exploit fear and urgency, making digital trust crucial as India advances toward a digitally empowered economy.

The report also warned of emerging threats in 2026, including AI-generated voice scams, identity verification fraud and multi-step scams combining calls and messages. The findings are based on anonymised metadata collected between January 1 and December 31, 2025.
