BRS flags voter roll deadline, SIR lapses

Metro India News | Hyderabad : BRS MLC Dasoju Sravan Kumar criticised the Election Commission's schedule for registration of graduate voters for the upcoming MLC elections and alleged lapses in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise in Telangana. A BRS delegation led by MLC L. Ramana met Chief Electoral Officer Sudarshan Reddy on Tuesday and submitted a representation on the issue.

Sravan questioned the November 6 deadline for submitting Form-18, pointing out that the final electoral roll under the SIR process is scheduled to be published on November 20. He argued that voters could face difficulties in identifying polling stations, part numbers and other electoral details before the final roll is published.

According to Sravan, the CEO responded positively and assured the delegation that the matter would be referred to the Election Commission in Delhi, with efforts to seek an extension of the deadline.

The BRS leader also alleged that inadequate public awareness about the SIR process could result in eligible voters being left out of the rolls. He criticised the state government over the participation levels in the revision exercise and urged the Election Commission to ensure a transparent and voter-friendly process.
