A high-level meeting with state party office-bearers discussed on present prevailing political situation, MLC elections and other issues in Telangana state. A meeting of key leaders and state office-bearers from nine districts within the Greater Hyderabad limits was held at the BJP State Office here under the chairmanship of State BJP President N Ramachandar Rao.
On this occasion, guidelines were given to the party cadres with the sole objective of winning the upcoming Graduates' MLC elections. A call was given to mobilize workers right from the booth level and reach out strongly to the public. The meeting also discussed the 'Loktantra Bachao - Bheedtantra Hatao' (Save Democracy - Remove Mobocracy) movement launched by the BJP against actions that suppress democracy. It was decided to intensify grassroots struggles by countering the autocratic policies of the Congress government in Telangana.
The meeting was attended by State Party In-charge Sunil Bansal, Co-in-charges Abhay Patil and Rekha Sharma, state Organizational General Secretary N Madhukar, Telangana BJP Joint Organizational General Secretary Dashrath along with party MPs, MLAs, MLCs and nine District Presidents under GHMC.
Meanwhile, the Jana Sena Party, an ally of the BJP, has already announced its candidate for the Warangal constituency. Political circles are discussing the possibility of an understanding between the two parties, under which the BJP could focus its primary efforts on the Hyderabad Graduate MLC seat, even if it fields a candidate in Warangal. Such an arrangement, if it materializes, could further underline the importance the BJP attaches to the Hyderabad contest.
Sunil Bansal takes challenge head-on
The BJP is seeking to establish itself as a serious contender for power in Telangana. The upcoming Khairatabad Assembly by-election, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) elections, the proposed municipal corporation elections in Malkajgiri and Cyberabad, and the future Assembly elections are being viewed by the party as important opportunities to expand its political presence. Against this backdrop, the party leadership has once again entrusted Sunil Bansal with responsibility for Telangana.
Bansal is approaching the Graduate MLC election as a major political challenge, aiming to position the contest as a direct fight between the BJP and the Congress. The BJP has a considerable support base among graduate voters, while its urban cadre network and the organizational strength of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) could play an important role in the campaign.
Hyderabad graduate MLC seat emerges as ‘semi-finals’
The Hyderabad Graduate MLC constituency has become the centre of political attention in Telangana, with all major parties focusing on the upcoming election. At first glance, it may appear to be just another Legislative Council election. However, with several key electoral battles in the coming months expected to revolve around Hyderabad, the contest is increasingly being viewed as a semi-final ahead of future elections. For the BJP, in particular, the seat has become a matter of prestige. Although the Warangal Graduate MLC constituency is also important, the BJP is believed to have relatively modest expectations there.
Hyderabad becomes priority for all major parties
The Hyderabad Graduate MLC seat is equally significant for the Congress and the BRS, with both parties closely monitoring the contest. While the party appears to have left the Warangal constituency largely to leaders with a stronger local presence, the Hyderabad seat carries particular importance because of its political and geographical significance. Mahabubnagar is also the home district of the Chief Minister, adding to the political weight attached to the constituency. The BRS, too, considers the election a prestige issue. As the principal opposition party, it faces the challenge of demonstrating its political strength ahead of the Khairatabad by-election and the forthcoming municipal corporation elections in Greater Hyderabad.
Overall, the Graduate MLC elections are increasingly being treated by political parties as a semi-final ahead of the next Assembly elections. With the Khairatabad by-election and several municipal corporation elections approaching, the outcome of the Hyderabad contest is expected to influence campaign momentum, party morale and political positioning across Telangana.
