Bharat Biotech International Limited(BBIL) has announced an agreement with Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, and UNICEF to reduce the price of Mosqivac®, the world’s first malaria vaccine, RTS,S/AS01, developed by GSK and now manufactured by BBIL.
The agreement will lower the vaccine’s price by approximately 40 per cent to EUR 5.50 per dose, effective by early 2027. The move is expected to generate around US$50 million in savings for child immunization programs between 2027 and 2029, enabling up to one million additional children to receive the complete four-dose vaccination course.
The Gavi-funded program has expanded routine immunization to 25 African countries. Bharat Biotech Executive Chairman Dr. Krishna Ella highlighted the importance of sustainable supply and affordable access. The agreement strengthens global efforts to protect vulnerable children and advance the target of vaccinating 50 million additional children against malaria by 2030.
