Tibetan man sets self ablaze near UN office

New York: A 52-year-old man died after setting himself on fire while holding a Tibetan flag outside the UN headquarters in New York on Thursday, police said. The man, with critical burns, was rushed to hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His identity has not been released pending notification of his family. Police are probing the self-immolation and have not determined what prompted the act. A UN spokesperson said the incident occurred after the day’s scheduled meets had concluded.
