Renowned Telugu artisan, accessories designer, and academic Dr. Rambabu Muppidi has added two more Indian design patents to his growing portfolio, bringing his total to 29 granted patents in India. His work reflects a unique blend of traditional craft knowledge and modern design technology.

Dr. Muppidi received his 28th patent for the “Craft Blue Robo Toy” (Design No. 489119-001, Games & Toys Category). The toy is designed to encourage imagination, storytelling, and cognitive development in children. It offers an interactive alternative to mobile devices and digital games, with a robot-inspired anthropomorphic form, ergonomic structure, and lightweight, portable design, making it suitable for children under 12. The design was developed through a combination of craft-based sketches, manual rendering, and CAD/CAM technology, bridging traditional craft with modern innovation.

His 29th patent, “Timer Slippers” (Design No. 481687-001, Footwear Category), integrates a timer unit to monitor walking activity. Inspired by everyday observations of footwear usage, the slippers aim to help men and senior citizens track their physical activity while maintaining comfort, durability, and aesthetic appeal. The design combines leather, rubber, cork, and other sustainable materials and demonstrates how functional innovation can be applied to daily-use products.

Speaking on his achievements, Dr. Muppidi said, “I aim to create products that connect traditional craft with modern technology. Whether it’s a toy that sparks imagination or footwear that promotes health awareness, design should serve both creativity and everyday life.”

Both projects were developed through academic collaboration involving students and faculty from FDDI Hyderabad and other institutions, with legal support from Subhajit Saha of Resolute 4IP. With over 50 design patents filed and 29 granted in India, Dr. Muppidi continues to inspire young designers and elevate Telugu artisans on the national design and innovation stage.
