No Private Internet in Government Offices

All government offices to shift exclusively to T-Fiber from September 1 as Telangana ends bill payments to private internet service providers to ensure secure, uniform, and cost effective connectivity

In a major step towards strengthening Telangana's digital governance infrastructure, IT and Industries Minister D. Sridhar Babu has directed that all government offices across the state shall use only T-Fiber internet connectivity from next month (September 1) onwards. He also made it clear that no bills for private internet service providers will be processed or paid by government offices from September 1 onwards, making T-Fiber the exclusive internet network for official use.

The Minister issued the directions while chairing a high level review meeting on the progress of the T-Fiber project at the Dr B.R. Ambedkar Telangana Secretariat on Tuesday.

Sridhar Babu said the initiative is aimed at establishing a secure, reliable, and uniform digital network across government institutions while significantly reducing recurring expenditure on internet services. He instructed officials to ensure that every government office is migrated to the T-Fiber network before the September 1 deadline so that the transition is completed without disruption to public services.

He also directed officials to complete the migration of the Telangana State Wide Area Network (T SWAN) into the T-Fiber network within one month, enabling seamless integration of government communication systems under a single digital platform.

The Minister stated that the expansion of T-Fiber has gathered significant momentum over the past six months, with 4,487 government offices already provided with T-Fiber connectivity. 

The initiative has resulted in savings of nearly Rs 13 crore to the state exchequer so far. Once fully implemented across all government offices, the government expects annual savings of approximately Rs 300 crore to Rs 400 crore through the exclusive use of the T-Fiber network.

Sridhar Babu said T-Fiber will provide secure intranet based internet access linked to the State Data Centre, ensuring enhanced cybersecurity and better protection of government data. He also instructed officials to extend T-Fiber infrastructure to support major projects, including the upcoming Future City, and to accelerate the government's vision of providing internet connectivity to every household in Telangana.

Senior officials, including Chief Secretary Sanjay Jaju, IT Department Joint Secretary Anudeep Durishetty, and T-Fiber Managing Director Venu Prasad, attended the review meeting.
