1.5 lakh jobs created in 20 months: Sridhar Babu

Telangana has attracted 150 new Global Capability Centres (GCCs) in the past 20 months, creating employment opportunities for around 1.5 lakh people, IT and Industries Minister Duddilla Sridhar Babu said.

The Minister inaugurated the Global Capability Centre established by JLL at the Financial District in Hyderabad on Thursday.

Speaking at the event, Sridhar Babu said JLL had earned a global reputation for identifying and recommending investment-friendly destinations, and its decision to establish a GCC in Hyderabad reflected the city’s growing potential as a global business and technology hub.

He said traditional IT operations were undergoing significant transformation worldwide, while innovation-driven GCCs were emerging as major centres for future employment and high-end services. The growing adoption of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and automation had not reduced the relevance of GCCs, but was instead creating new opportunities in technology and innovation, the Minister said.

Sridhar Babu attributed the rapid growth of GCCs in Telangana to the State’s world-class infrastructure, skilled workforce and industry-friendly policies. Just as the Outer Ring Road played a key role in Hyderabad’s development, projects such as the Regional Ring Road, AI City and Bharat Future City were creating a strong foundation for future investments, he said.

The Minister said that the State government was also focusing on skill development programmes aligned with industry requirements and preparing the workforce for emerging areas such as AI, deep-tech and other advanced technologies.

"Hyderabad accounted for 16 per cent of GCC office leasing activity across India between 2024 and 2026, while GCCs accounted for 42 per cent of the city’s total office leasing activity during the same period, he said. These figures reflected the growing importance of GCCs to Hyderabad’s economy, he said.

“Hyderabad is also emerging as a preferred destination for GCCs in sectors such as healthcare, biotechnology and semiconductors,” Sridhar Babu said, adding that the city was evolving beyond its identity as an IT hub to become a global centre for innovation in cutting-edge technology sectors.  The JLL GCC is expected to create employment for around 1,600 people over the next two years once fully operational. It will provide finance, human resources, project management, lease administration, advanced analytics and technology-enabled services to JLL’s operations across the world.
