Khush Raho with Sangeeta Get Well Soon

21-06-2026 12:00:00 AM

I woke up with a backache, a sore throat, and general body ache. As the day went on, I realized this was going to be more than a passing uncomfortable morning, probably a viral flu of some kind. My first thought was, oh no, I have all these deadlines and events I've committed to. How will I be able to meet them?

So as I swallowed hot black tea, trying to warm my throat, I said, okay, what is the recovery program? First, the trusty salt water gargles, multiple times a day. Second, energy healing. Third, a simple meditation, not the intense one I normally do on Thursdays and Fridays. Fourth, healthy, hot, fresh meals, not too heavy but frequent, along with hot soup. Fifth, as much rest as possible. I had the luxury of working from bed, since it was a day for coordination and luckily no external meetings were lined up.

At one point I caught myself feeling sorry for myself, but I knew it wouldn't help. Instead, I reminded myself of an anecdote my husband once shared about Anupam Kher’s first day shooting with Amitabh Bachchan.

Distressed to find his makeup room lacked air conditioning, Kher arrived on the sweltering set to find Mr. Bachchan already waiting—sitting under a heavy blanket required for the scene, completely unfazed by the heat.

When Kher asked, "Sir, how can you do this shot in this sweltering heat?"

Mr. Bachchan replied, "I am uncomfortable only when I think about it."

That one sentence captures something our old wisdom traditions have taught: energy follows thought. Your thoughts go, and your power follows. That is what shapes how you act, how you react, and the outcomes you create.

So when I found myself feeling sorry for myself, with all this work lined up in the coming days, I paused and said, okay, at the top of the list: awareness and visualization. I think about good outcomes. I visualize myself happy and healthy in the future I want, enjoying whatever it is I do. This sends positive, healing energy to every cell in my body, giving them the signal to heal, to regenerate, and to fight the infection. Our body takes its signals from our thoughts and our emotions.

As I write this on day two of the viral flu, I am already feeling better, following this five-part action plan. One, awareness and visualization of the good, happy things I have coming up to look forward to. Two, eating well and resting well. Three, self or remote energy healing. Four, a small meditation. Five, not just the salt gargles, but also a salt foot bath with my special essential oils.

I wish you all a happy Sunday and healthy days ahead. Stay well. The season is changing; today, June 21st, is the summer solstice, the longest day of the year. Each day, each moment, brings new opportunities, and we get to decide how we use them, to feed them with good, positive thoughts, to manifest the good we want in our life, or not. Ultimately, it is a choice. Small rituals. Profound healing.
