Secunderabad Government Railway Police (GRP), along with Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel, seized Rs 1.22 crore in suspected hawala money from a passenger travelling on the Devagiri Express from Mumbai to Secunderabad.
The accused was identified as Vijay Ambadas Gupta, 40, a resident of Amaravati district in Maharashtra. He was detained during a joint checking operation conducted on Train No. 17057 Devagiri Express between Bollaram and Malkajgiri railway stations on May 26.

During questioning, he allegedly revealed that he had collected the cash from a Mumbai-based jeweller identified as “Santosh Seth” and was transporting it to Secunderabad to hand it over to another person linked to a jewellery business in Monda Market.
According to officials, the accused was promised Rs 5,000 for transporting the money. However, he failed to produce any valid documents or satisfactory explanation regarding the source and purpose of the cash.
The seized amount included Rs 500, Rs 200 and Rs 100 denomination notes totaling Rs 1,22,70,000. Further investigation is underway.
