Telangana BJP President N. Ramchander Rao on Wednesday accused the ruling Congress of fostering “lawlessness” in the state and urged the police to act impartially. Democracy being undermined under Congress governance in the state, he remarked.

After visiting injured BJP workers at a government hospital in Nalgonda, Rao, talking to newsmen, alleged that six party members were attacked by Congress supporters in Chandur municipality, with four still under treatment. Calling the assault politically motivated, and targeted Kiran, a former BJP candidate in the municipality, and was instigated by a local MLA. He said the party would ensure the culprits are punished. He assured party workers that the BJP stands firmly with them and urged them not to be afraid. “If such attacks continue, there will be strong resistance. We will not rest until the culprits are punished and sent to jail”, he added.

He also criticized the police for filing “mild cases” and booking counter-cases against BJP workers, alleging political pressure. He accused Congress leaders involvement in illegal activities such as land grabbing, drug trafficking, and operating unauthorized liquor outlets.

Citing incidents in the regions such as Nalgonda, Peddapalli, and Mancherial, he alleged that the police were behaving like Congress workers and suppressing BJP leaders. He condemned the alleged assault on BJP district president Nagam Varshit Reddy by a DSP during municipal elections. Rao asserted that the voters would “respond decisively” in the upcoming elections.
