Citizens seek government support to stop belt shops

Residents of Saidappa Basti in Pragathi Nagar Ward under the Nizampet Circle have alleged that illegal liquor sales through belt shops(illegal and unauthorised wine shops) are continuing unchecked, raising concerns over law and order and public safety in the locality. According to local residents, several belt shops are operating illegally in and around Saidappa Basti, particularly behind and opposite the Renuka Yellamma Temple. They allege that these outlets open before dawn and continue selling liquor until late at night without any apparent enforcement or regulatory action.

Residents claim that at least three locations in and around the locality are involved in the illegal sale of liquor, leading to a deterioration in the neighbourhood's social environment. They allege that daily wage labourers and members of economically weaker families are increasingly falling prey to alcohol addiction, with intoxicated individuals frequently seen lying on roads after consuming liquor.

They accused the concerned authorities of failing to take adequate action despite being aware of the alleged illegal activities. Residents have urged the police and the Excise Department to conduct special enforcement drives in the area, shut down the alleged illegal belt shops, and initiate strict legal action against those responsible. They have also called on the authorities to act promptly to restore peace and ensure a safe environment for the local community.
