Breaking mental health stigma

Singer-songwriter and actor Kaveri Kapur has taken a powerful step in raising awareness about mental health by opening up about her personal journey with Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD).  In a heartfelt post on social media, Kaveri shared her struggles with intrusive thoughts and repetitive behaviors that define OCD, a condition that often goes beyond simple habits. 

She revealed her coping mechanisms, including naming her OCD ‘Bob’, a method of personifying the condition to create psychological distance from the intrusive thoughts. Kaveri explained how this technique helps her recognise the irrationality of her thought patterns. Despite the challenges, Kaveri emphasised the importance of self-care and shared her nightly ritual of doing a sound bath to calm her nervous system. 

She expressed hope for healing, adding that she wanted to inspire others who may be struggling with similar issues. Kaveri’s vulnerability and honesty create a space for open conversations around mental health and offer comfort to those facing similar battles.
