Andhra Pradesh Education and IT Minister Nara Lokesh on Friday directed officials to develop the proposed State Central Library in Amaravati as a world-class knowledge hub that reflects the rich history, culture and aspirations of the State.
Chairing a review meeting with senior officials of the School Education Department at his residence in Undavalli, the Minister examined the architectural design and conceptual plans of the Central Library building, which is slated to be constructed in the people’s capital. He also reviewed a detailed presentation prepared by experts and offered several suggestions to enhance the project’s scope and functionality.
Lokesh emphasized that the Central Library should emerge as a landmark institution symbolising Andhra Pradesh’s heritage while meeting global standards in infrastructure and technology. He instructed officials to incorporate modern digital facilities and create an integrated knowledge ecosystem that serves students, researchers and the general public alike.
“The Central Library must stand as a symbol of our glorious history and cultural legacy while also reflecting the aspirations of the people,” the Minister said. He directed authorities to ensure the facility houses over 1.5 million books, along with dedicated archival sections and auditorium facilities, transforming it into a comprehensive learning and cultural centre. Beyond being a repository of knowledge, the library should contribute to the holistic development of students and encourage participation from all sections of society, he added.
The review meeting also covered key aspects of school education, including the implementation of the Foundational Literacy and Numeracy (FLN) programme in government schools, use of digital “clicker” learning videos, and the ongoing 100-day academic action plan for Class X students ahead of public examinations.
The Minister reviewed the adoption of the LEAP (Learning Excellence and Assessment Platform) app, introduced to help parents monitor student attendance and academic performance. He sought details on the number of parent downloads and directed officials to strengthen awareness campaigns to improve usage.
Discussions were also held on the use of AI Tutor technology in government schools, development works at Nidamarru School, evaluation of Class X public examination answer scripts, and progress related to upcoming DSC teacher recruitment.
The meeting was attended by Education Department Secretary Kona Sashidhar, School Education Commissioner V. Vijayarama Raju, Samagra Shiksha State Project Director B. Srinivasa Rao, Director of Public Libraries Krishnamohan, and other senior officials.
