Some engineers and technical experts say that if the leakage water streams are not stopped, even the floor slab is in danger of collapsing

Water has been leaking from the Srisailam Left Bank Underground Hydropower Station since few days. The leakage was detected from the zero floor of the draft tube of Unit 1. The leakage started as thin drops of water for the first time on September 18, 2024. As the turbine was rotating rapidly in pump mode, water droplets were falling in a stream. On December 25, GENCO officials installed CCTV cameras. However, the leakage area could not be identified unless the surge chamber and gates are closed and the water stored in the turbine is completely removed.

Some engineers and technical experts say that if the leakage water streams are not stopped, even the floor slab is in danger of collapsing. On the other hand, Hydel CE Narayana inspected the water leakage area from Hyderabad Vidyut Soudha on Tuesday. It is reported that local engineers have been instructed to prepare a report with complete details immediately. Meanwhile, Genco Civil SE Ravindra Kumar said that they are regularly checking the water leakage streams near the draft tube of the first unit. He said that they will discuss with experienced experts and resolve this issue.
