The government of Telangana has set an ambitious objective to train two lakh engineers in Artificial Intelligence (AI), said Minister for IT and Industries Duddilla Sridhar Babu. A delegation from Singapore, headed by Consul General Edgar Pang, visited Sridhar Babu at the Secretariat on Monday.
During their discussion, the Minister highlighted the efforts being made to establish Telangana as a center for emerging technologies. He stressed the state's dedication to preparing its youth with the necessary skills to take advantage of job opportunities in this expanding field. Sridhar Babu also provided insights into the development of the 'Future City' project, which aims to meet global standards, as well as the establishment of an AI University within that initiative.
He mentioned that several international organisations have expressed interest in partnering in the Future City initiative. Hyderabad is evolving into a hub for Global Capability Centers (GCCs), he said, noting that in just the past year, around 70 GCCs related to IT, hospitality, and other sectors have been launched. Sridhar Babu also elaborated on the steps being taken to promote industrial development across the State, stressing that the government is encouraging the establishment of industries beyond Hyderabad, particularly in cities like Warangal and Karimnagar.
The Minister urged the visiting delegation to help spread awareness among local industrialists about the advantages Telangana offers for setting up industries. He reaffirmed the State’s readiness to collaborate with the Singapore government in areas such as technology, skill development and other sectors. The meeting was attended by Consul Vaishnavi Vasudevan, First Secretary (Economic) Vivek Raghu Raman and Denis Tam, Regional Director (India–South) of Enterprise Singapore, among others.
