Consultancy firms invited for feasibility studies, asked to submit proposals by March 21

Andhra Pradesh is setting its sights on major aviation expansion, with plans to develop two Greenfield International Airports in Amaravati and Srikakulam. To kick start the process, the Andhra Pradesh Airports Development Corporation Limited (APADCL) has invited consultancy firms to conduct pre-feasibility and feasibility studies, a crucial first step in turning these ambitious projects into reality.
The Amaravati International Airport is expected to be a game-changer for the state's capital region. Amaravati, envisioned as a world-class city, requires a modern, high-capacity airport to support business, administration, and tourism. With its strategic location, the airport is likely to attract global investments, boosting the region’s economy and positioning it as a key player in South India’s aviation sector.
Meanwhile, the Srikakulam Greenfield Airport promises to open up North Andhra Pradesh to the world. Srikakulam, known for its coastal splendour and industrial potential, currently lacks a major airport. A new international airport here is expected to improve connectivity, support industries, and enhance tourism, benefiting both coastal and tribal regions.
“Before the airports take shape, the feasibility studies will evaluate potential sites, passenger and cargo demand, environmental impact, and financial viability. The selected consultants will also assess land acquisition requirements, integration with transport networks, and overall infrastructure needs,” said an official of APADCL.
Officials opined that these studies will play a crucial role in determining the best locations and securing approvals from regulatory authorities. If all goes as planned, the project will move into the implementation phase, potentially attracting private investment through a public-private partnership (PPP) model.
In fact, the Andhra Pradesh government has been aggressively expanding its aviation network. While Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, and Tirupati currently serve as key international gateways, additional airports will further strengthen Andhra Pradesh’s position as a hub for trade, tourism, and global business. This initiative also aligns with the Centre’s UDAN (Ude Desh Ka Aam Nagrik) scheme, which aims to make air travel more affordable and accessible for regional travelers.
With consultancy firms now invited to submit proposals by March 21, the groundwork for these airports has officially begun. If successful, these projects will transform air travel in Andhra Pradesh, bringing economic opportunities, employment, and global connectivity to Amaravati and Srikakulam.
