Nearly 120 tourists from Telangana, who were vacationing in Kashmir, are confirmed to be safe following a recent terrorist attack in the Pahalgam area, one of the deadliest in recent times. The group, part of a 116-member delegation from a prominent chit fund firm in Telangana, has been confined to their hotel in Srinagar as a precautionary measure.

The delegation, comprising managers, agents, and their families, arrived in Kashmir on Tuesday and had been touring various locations in Srinagar until the news of the attack broke. The group was originally scheduled to visit Pahalgam on Thursday, April 24, but the trip was cancelled following the attack.

A representative from the firm assured that the situation in Srinagar remains calm and there is no immediate cause for concern. The group is scheduled to return to Hyderabad on Friday. This tour is part of an annual company-sponsored vacation initiative, with two earlier batches of over 120 members each having recently completed similar trips to Kashmir.

In a related update, the family of a former UGC member's son, who was also vacationing in Srinagar, safely returned from a visit to Pahalgam earlier in the day before the attack occurred. They are in a hotel in Srinagar at present. They booked return flight for this Saturday initially. But in the wake of fresh developments, the family is trying to advance their return plans back home to Hyderabad at the earliest.

The Telangana government has set up a dedicated helpline to assist any tourists from the state who may have been in the vicinity of the attack. Vandana, an official spokesperson, confirmed that no Telangana residents were among the victims. However, it was reported that an Intelligence Bureau officer from Bihar, who had been working in Hyderabad, lost his life in the attack. His family has taken his body to Bihar for the final rites. The government continues to monitor the situation closely and is providing all necessary support to the tourists and their families.

TG Govt sets up helpline

As of now, there are no reports of anyone from Telangana being injured, missing, or killed in the incident.  The Telangana government on Wednesday set up a dedicated helpline at Telangana Bhavan in New Delhi to support and address concerns of residents from the state, if any are found to be affected by the Pahalgam terror attack.

As of now, there are no reports of anyone from Telangana being injured, missing, or killed in the incident. However, the government has set up the helpline as a precautionary measure to provide immediate assistance and keep the public informed, an official release said. The Telangana Bhavan officials in New Delhi are in constant touch with the Jammu and Kashmir state administration as well as central government authorities and monitoring the situation closely, it said.

In the aftermath of a terror attack in Pahalgam, several travel agencies in Delhi said on Wednesday that nearly 90 per cent bookings for Jammu and Kashmir have been cancelled by tourists over safety concerns.

Around 25 people have asked them to cancel their bookings for the Union Territory, said Gaurav Rathi, owner of Swan Travellers, a company located in Shankar Market, Outer Circle, Connaught Place. Travel agencies in Delhi reported that nearly 90 per cent bookings for Kashmir have been cancelled, while some tourists are negotiating to shift their plans to alternative destinations.

"We had a few bookings from families. From bus and flight tickets to hotels -- everything was booked in advance. But the moment the news of the terror attack broke, we started receiving calls for cancellations," Dev, the owner of Kusha Travels, told PTI. "We had more than 20 bookings for Kashmir for this month and next month, but almost all of those have been cancelled indefinitely," said Kartik Verma, a travel agent from Good Guide Tours and Travels.

"People are asking for refunds. They are saying they cannot risk taking their loved ones to a place where there is a chance that they might not return," he added. "It is not just Delhi residents cancelling their plans -- tourists already in the capital are also calling off their Kashmir trips, even though hotel tariffs are at a peak this summer. People are cancelling regardless of the cost," said the owner of Swastik Travels.
