If everything goes according to plan, Telangana Public Schools will be established across the state. The educational landscape is about to change. The Telangana Education Commission, led by retired IAS officer Akunuri Murali, is set to propose an ambitious initiative to the state government—Telangana Public Schools (TPS).

The aim to establish state-of-the-art, government-run educational institutions across the state, providing a quality learning environment comparable to the best private schools in Hyderabad.

TPS: A comprehensive educational model

Telangana Public Schools will be designed to cater to students from Nursery to the Plus Two level (10+2), with each school accommodating an average of 2,000 students. With nearly 100 teachers per school, the faculty-to-student ratio will ensure personalized attention and holistic learning.

These semi-residential schools will provide breakfast and lunch to all students, fostering a nurturing and inclusive atmosphere.

To facilitate accessibility, students from nearby villages will be enrolled and provided with reliable state-run bus transportation. This ensures that parents face no logistical challenges in sending their children to school.

The TPS program proposes the establishment of 2 to 4 schools per mandal, translating to a total of 2,000–3,000 schools across Telangana’s 33 districts. This phased implementation over five years will ensure efficient resource allocation and seamless transition.

Addressing current challenges

Telangana currently has over 26,600 government schools, many of which lack basic facilities and adequate teaching staff. The TPS model seeks to consolidate these resources, merging existing government schools into well-equipped TPS campuses. This strategic reorganization ensures optimal utilization of faculty and infrastructure without additional recruitment or enrollment challenges.

Public demand

Commission Chairman Akunuri Murali emphasized that the TPS concept stems from strong public demand for quality education facilities in rural areas. Parents aspire to provide their children with the same opportunities available in private schools in Hyderabad. This sentiment has driven the commission to propose TPS as a transformative step in the state’s educational reform.

District Collectors will be tasked with overseeing the establishment and functioning of TPS schools in their regions, ensuring accountability and adherence to high standards.

Towards a brighter future

The Telangana Education Commission is preparing to submit the TPS proposal to the Congress-led state government under CM Revanth Reddy.

The government’s approval and commitment to this initiative could mark a new era in Telangana’s education system, addressing current deficiencies and providing a one-stop solution for school and secondary education needs.

The TPS initiative is going to empower students with quality education, equitable opportunities, and a promising future. These institutions will set a benchmark for public schooling, eliminating the inadequacies of existing government schools, such as single-room setups, insufficient faculty, and lack of infrastructure.
