In a major boost to dairy farmers, the Andhra Pradesh Government is offering 90% subsidy to farmers to set up Gokulam sheds. The State Minister for Housing, Information, and Public Relations, Kolusu Parthasarathi said that the government has initiated the construction of mini-Gokulam sheds for those who have a small piece of land for their livestock. He urged all dairy farmers to take advantage of this opportunity. “The government is providing a 90% subsidy for this scheme,” he said.
On Saturday, the minister inaugurated a Gokulam shed constructed at a cost of Rs. 2.30 lakhs under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) in Nekkalam village, Agirapalli mandal. Speaking on this occasion, he announced the approval of mini-Gokulam sheds.
“The previous YSRCP government completely neglected the Gokulam sheds,” he said, adding that the current government is taking steps to restore their former glory. “The state government is taking measures to provide better facilities for livestock rearing, poultry, and goat farming in villages and to encourage farmers,” he added.
He also highlighted the various loans and subsidies offered by the Department of Animal Husbandry and the National Livestock Mission to promote livestock rearing among aspiring farmers and unemployed youth.
The minister directed the officials of the Animal Husbandry Department to hold monthly meetings with bankers and other government officials to create awareness among farmers, especially livestock farmers, about available loans and the procedures to avail them. He also suggested adopting modern technology for the growth of the livestock business.
The minister informed that the government is offering a loan of up to Rs. 1 crore with a 50% subsidy for the construction of goat, sheep, and cattle farms. He urged the bankers and government officials to widely publicize these government-sponsored subsidy loans at the grassroots level.
“If any farmer approaches a banker for a loan and faces any difficulties, you should immediately bring it to my notice. I will personally intervene and ensure that the loan is sanctioned,” he assured.
Several officials from the Animal Husbandry Department and local TDP leaders were present at the event.
