South Central Railway has taken up the prestigious project of major up gradation of Secunderabad Railway station with an estimated cost of Rs 720 crore.
As part of this, civil works are being undertaken at the station which include the demolition of the existing station building at the north side so as to construct the new building. Utmost care is being taken to ensure the safety of rail passengers with least inconvenience. In this regard, to effectively manage the entry and exit of the rail passengers, a few measures are being implemented at Secunderabad railway station to streamline the crowd, which are as follows.
New entry has been opened at Gate No. 2 (beside Ganesh Temple) into Platform No. 1 along with general booking counter facility, enquiry and a Waiting Hall with holding capacity of 750 passengers and with space to provide 500 additional seating. As Gate No. 4 is closed, an additional entry is provided at Gate No. 3 and 3B (opposite Swathi Hotel). New entry has been opened at Gate No. 8 (Bhoiguda side entrance) into Platform No.10 along with general booking facility.
Adequate signage boards and Direction Boards have been provided at station entry, exits in circulating areas, on platforms and on Foot-over Bridges for easy identification and for smooth flow of passenger’s movement. Commercial Inspectors are deputed at station and 24x7 monitoring is being done to report and rectify any failure of equipment and to take prompt action if any untoward incidents arise. Commercial Officers are nominated to monitor crowds during Peak hours in addition to monitoring of Kumbh Mela special trains. At any given time, sufficient Ticket Checking staff will be available at the station for crowd management and also for safe and smooth boarding of passengers.
Limited number of stalls are kept operational round the clock. Platforms are being nominated well in advance so passengers can disperse to respective platforms instead of waiting on Platform 01 and 10 and rushing up to catch the train at the last minute. Frequent announcements are being done regarding platforms, late arrivals, Divyangjan coach position and so on.
Additional RPF personnel deployed at entry, exit gates, platforms, concourses and foot-over bridges to manage passenger flow efficiently. Real-time monitoring is done by RPF personnel through an enhanced CCTV surveillance network to identify and address security concerns immediately. Deployment of RPF Shakti Teams for women’s safety ensuring a secure environment for female passengers. Adequate fire safety inspections are being conducted and fire safety protocols being followed.
Railways earnestly solicit the co-operation of rail users in view of the large-scale construction works being taken up as part of station redevelopment works. SCR Zone remains committed in ensuring the safety, security, and convenience of all passengers traveling from Secunderabad Station.
