A delegation from NITI Aayog met Andhra Pradesh Chief Secretary K. Vijayanand on Friday to discuss a strategic roadmap for the state's energy sector. The discussions focused on formulating a cost-effective energy transition plan aimed at achieving the state's Net Zero targets by 2047.
During the meeting, CS Vijayanand outlined the Andhra Pradesh government initiatives to promote renewable energy as part of its 2024 Integrated Clean Energy Policy. He highlighted the state's ambitious goal of establishing over 160 gigawatts (GW) of renewable energy capacity. The government is taking significant steps to enhance solar and wind power generation, as well as green hydrogen production, with an emphasis on attracting large-scale investments and setting up key projects.
The Chief Secretary also noted the recent foundation stone laying by Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the Integrated Green Hydrogen Production Project, a joint venture between NTPC and NREDCAP, near Visakhapatnam. He informed the delegation that the Greenco Group is spearheading Green Hydrogen Production & Electrolyzer Manufacturing in Kakinada, while Andhra Pradesh Genco (AP Genco), in collaboration with the Central Public Sector Undertaking NHPC, is developing Pumped Storage Projects (PSPs) with a combined capacity of over 6,000 MW.
The NITI Aayog team shared insights on their ongoing collaboration with the Maharashtra government under its Energy Transition Plan and detailed the steps being taken to achieve Net Zero targets in that state. Expressing keen interest in supporting Andhra Pradesh, NITI Aayog proposed signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the state government to provide comprehensive assistance in realizing its energy transition goals.
The meeting saw participation from several key officials.
