Due to an unusual incident which happened in Bolarum Railway Station on Wednesday, about fifteen passengers were struck in the closed railway coaches. On knowing about it, immediately the “accident relief trains”(ART) responded and came forward. National Disaster Response  Force(NDRF) also reached the spot of the incident and begun the relief operations.

Both NDRF and ART teams began the task of rescuing the struck passengers through special equipment. However, it was later revealed that the above mentioned incident did not really happen. It was a “mock drill” conducted at Bolarum railway station jointly by the South Central Railway and NDRF.

This mock drill was conducted to gauge the efficiency and readiness of the rescue staff to face challenges during  emergency incidents. Hyderabad Division of South Central Railway along with a team of 22 members from Regional Response Centre (RRC) Hyderabad, NDRF along with Railway ART (Accident Relief Train), SPARMV (Self Propelled Accident Relief Medical Vans) teams carried out this mock drill.

The objective of the drill was also to test the use of equipment used during disasters and undertake hands-on experience with tools like cold cutting equipment like saw, abrasive cutter to cut the window rods and the Coach body. This facilitates easy lifting of injured passengers and evacuate them from the affected coaches.Seniour officials from both the NDRF and railways were present and witnessed the mock exercise with their teams.
