On the occasion of World Earth Day, observed annually on April 22, Andhra Pradesh Minister for Medical and Health, Satyakumar Yadav, issued a heartfelt appeal for environmental awareness and action. Emphasizing the deteriorating state of the planet, the Minister said, “Mother Earth is silently weeping as she endures relentless assaults in the name of human progress.”
In a powerful message, the Minister underscored that protecting the health of the planet is a shared responsibility, warning that unchecked industrial expansion, shrinking greenery, vanishing biodiversity, depleting groundwater, and rising pollution are pushing Earth toward ecological imbalance.
He noted that climate change, increasing desertification, polluted rivers, and rising sea levels are posing grave threats to Earth’s survival—and, by extension, humanity’s future. Referring to the origins of World Earth Day in 1970, he said the global event has since become a movement for environmental consciousness and sustainability. “In a time when industrial pollution is being mistaken for the ‘smell of progress’, Earth Day reminds us of our duty to future generations,” he said.
This year’s global theme, “Planet vs. Plastics”, aims to triple global renewable energy generation by 2030 and reduce dependency on non-sustainable practices. The Minister urged both citizens and government to look beyond immediate comforts and instead prioritize sustainable development. “Let’s not race only for today's convenience but work toward a livable tomorrow,” he stated. “Let us collectively pledge this Earth Day to safeguard our planet's health—and, with it, the survival of humanity.”
