Farmers Commission Chairman Kodanda Reddy emphasized the need to expand horticulture crop cultivation across the state. A review meeting was held at the Farmers Commission office to discuss the pilot project, where three villages in Yacharam Mandal of Ranga Reddy district—Gaddamallayya Gudem, Mondi Gaurelli, and Choudhary Guda—were selected for implementation.
Officials highlighted the need to identify farmer requirements in these villages for vegetable and leafy green cultivation. Since Ranga Reddy district has low rainfall and limited water resources, officials recommended cultivating crops that require less water. They also suggested guiding farmers accordingly and forming Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) to organize farmers collectively.
Officials are now preparing state-wide plans to promote vegetable, fruit, flower, and leafy green cultivation. The government has assured subsidies for equipment and drip irrigation and encouraged utilizing central government schemes effectively.
To streamline the implementation, a coordination committee will be formed within the next few days under the Farmers Commission. The committee will include representatives from the agriculture, horticulture, marketing, NABARD departments, NGOs, and a commission official. Its primary role will be to ensure the success of the pilot project in the selected villages of Yacharam Mandal, paving the way for expanding horticulture cultivation across Telangana.
The meeting, chaired by Kodanda Reddy, was attended by commission members Gopal Reddy, Bhavani Reddy, Gadugu Gangadhar, Member Secretary Govindu, and officials from agriculture, horticulture, marketing, NABARD, and NGOs.
