In a major milestone fulfilling a three-decade-long dream of the residents of Mangalagiri, the region is all set to witness the foundation stone being laid for a state-of-the-art 100-bed government hospital. Minister for Education and IT, Nara Lokesh, who was elected from the Mangalagiri constituency, will inaugurate the hospital construction on April 13 at Chinakakani, near Mangalagiri.

Minister Lokesh has envisioned this facility as one of the best in the country and has already directed officials to ensure that the hospital not only matches but exceeds the standards of top corporate hospitals. Multiple review meetings were held to finalize building designs and incorporate advanced medical amenities.

He emphasized the need to create a serene working environment for doctors and staff and set a deadline of one year for the hospital’s completion. Spread across 7.35 acres, the hospital will be constructed over a built-up area of 1,15,000 square feet. A budget of Rs.52.20 crore has been allocated for the project. The initial construction will be G+1 (ground plus one floor), with provisions for future expansion.

The hospital will include specialized departments such as General Medicine, General Surgery, Orthopaedics, Gynaecology, and more. Facilities will also include three operation theatres, a dialysis center, a Thalassemia ward, and a de-addiction outpatient center.

The roots of Mangalagiri’s hospital date back to 1986 when the late Chief Minister N.T. Rama Rao inaugurated the original government hospital. Over the years, the facility saw gradual neglect, eventually being reduced to offering only outpatient services.

Residents formed committees and repeatedly submitted petitions to various governments, demanding its upgrade. However, the long-standing dream remained unfulfilled—until now. Given the deteriorated condition of the current hospital building, the decision was made to shift operations to a new site at Chinakakani, on land previously earmarked for the VVC Cancer Hospital.
