In a significant step toward improving the quality of school education, the Andhra Pradesh government has unveiled a revamped textbook distribution policy aimed at ensuring timely delivery of educational materials to students. The new system will take effect from June 12, with the launch of the ‘Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan Vidya Mitra Kits’, which include not only textbooks but a full set of school essentials.

To implement the policy effectively, the government has established a multi-tiered system of committees at the district, mandal, and school levels. Each committee will play a crucial role in the distribution process, from logistics and verification to reporting and delivery.

At the mandal level, the committee will be headed by the Mandal Education Officer (MEO-2), with MEO-1, the Mandal Engineer, the MIS Coordinator/Data Entry Operator, and three additional members, including the CMRT, serving as members. This team is responsible for receiving the kits at the mandal stock point, verifying contents, uploading data into the official mobile application, transporting the materials to schools, and maintaining daily records.

At the school level, the Headmaster will lead the distribution committee, supported by a Village Education Assistant, a Woman Police Representative, and two parent committee members. Their task will be to hand over the kits to students and ensure that all materials are accounted for at the school level. The district-level committee will be chaired by the District APC of Samagra Shiksha, with the CMO acting as the convener. Other members include the GCDO, MIS Coordinator, and ALSCVOs. They will oversee stock points, supervise documentation, and submit daily reports to higher authorities.

Speaking to Metro India, V. Vijayaramaraju, Project Director of Sarvasik Siksha Abhigyan, confirmed that the government is taking all necessary measures to ensure the timely delivery of kits before the reopening of schools. “We are committed to ensuring that every student receives their textbooks and essential materials on time. The committee-based approach will help us maintain transparency and efficiency throughout the process,” he stated.

The ‘Vidya Mitra Kits’ are designed to be comprehensive and student-friendly. Each kit will contain textbooks, notebooks, workbooks, dictionaries, school uniforms, bags, shoes, and belts. The initiative aims to ease the burden on families, enhance student attendance, and create a more engaging learning environment in classrooms.
