The Andhra Pradesh government, under the leadership of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, is making rapid strides to provide dignified housing for the poor, with a mission to complete 3 lakh houses within a year of assuming office. The Chief Minister has set an ambitious deadline June 12, 2025, to mark the completion of his first year in office with a commitment to inaugurate all 3 lakh homes by then.

Housing for the underprivileged has been prioritized as a flagship welfare initiative by the NDA government in the state. In line with this, the government is offering Rs. 1.87 lakh as direct financial assistance to each beneficiary. Additionally, to ease the financial burden on low-income families, the government has arranged Rs. 35,000 loans at low-interest rates, similar to the DWACRA group lending model, backed by state guarantee.

To further expedite construction, additional financial support has been sanctioned for marginalized communities. Beneficiaries from Backward Classes (BC) and Scheduled Castes (SC) are now eligible to receive an extra Rs. 50,000, while Scheduled Tribe (ST) beneficiaries will receive Rs. 75,000. This move is expected to significantly boost the completion rate and ensure that homes are not left unfinished due to funding constraints.

According to the Housing Department, 1.7 lakh houses have already been completed, and another 60,000 are nearing completion. The remaining units are in advanced stages of construction, with field officers and local authorities working around the clock to meet the Chief Minister’s deadline.

The government has so far released Rs. 300 crore, including Rs. 202 crore earmarked specifically for BC, SC, and ST beneficiaries. These funds are being disbursed swiftly to help beneficiaries accelerate the pace of construction. The total number of beneficiaries impacted by the additional support has crossed 6 lakh, underscoring the scheme’s wide-reaching impact.

Housing Minister Kolusu Pardhasaradhi is personally overseeing the department’s performance, regularly reviewing progress with senior officials. Ajay Jain, IAS, Special Chief Secretary for Housing, is conducting daily reviews with District Collectors and Housing Department officials. He has set strict targets, appointed special officers in key areas, and instructed them to conduct on-site visits to monitor layout development and project execution.

District Collectors across Andhra Pradesh have been actively reviewing the progress at the local level, coordinating efforts with village secretariats and housing staff to ensure every eligible household receives timely support and guidance.
