‘Swachh Andhra – Swachh Diwas' held on the third Saturday of every month aims to promote a cleaner and more sustainable AP
Andhra Pradesh Municipal Administration Minister Dr. P. Narayana said on Friday that a total of 222 e-waste collection centers are set to be operational across the state. The minister noted that this initiative would not be limited to a single-day event but would establish a permanent system for daily e-waste collection. He held a teleconference with all Municipal Commissioners giving detailed directions for the successful execution of the 'Swachh Andhra – Swachh Diwas' campaign scheduled for Saturday. The event, held on the third Saturday of every month aims to promote a cleaner and more sustainable Andhra Pradesh.
The teleconference was attended by Municipal Administration Principal Secretary Suresh Kumar, Swachh Andhra MD Anil Kumar Reddy, Chairman Pattabhiram, and commissioners from all municipalities. This month’s theme, titled “E-Check”, focuses on the collection and responsible disposal of electronic waste (e-waste) from homes and commercial establishments across urban and rural areas. Minister Narayana emphasized the need for coordinated efforts involving all departments, local representatives, and citizen participation.
As part of the initiative, existing RRR (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) centers in municipalities will be converted into designated e-waste collection centers. These centers will be managed by women from Self-Help Groups under the Mission for Elimination of Poverty in Municipal Areas (MEPMA). Citizens handing over unusable electronic items such as old mobile phones, televisions, and other gadgets will receive monetary compensation.Minister Narayana will personally participate in the 'Swachh Diwas' event in Nellore on Saturday to encourage on-ground implementation.
